Children and Youth Programs
We are committed to helping young people grow spiritually and to develop their relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as fostering their sense of outreach and stewardship in the Church and the community. Our Church School creates a “worship-focused” experience for children from Pre-K through Grade 6. We also provide Pre-Confirmation and Confirmation classes, meant to prepare teens Grade 7 -9 for Confirmation. Our new Toddler program (ages 3-4) meets monthly.
Music and the Arts
Music at Atonement is a key element in our worship and spiritual lives. Atonement is blessed with wonderful musicians – our volunteer choir is supported by professional soloists and on special occasions, members of the congregation who play instruments. We incorporate art and poetry into our special services, and have an A/V system so that artwork and other images can be incorporated into sermons and presentations when desired. During the year we hold recitals and other events, including our Fine Arts Festival in the spring.
We have a variety of opportunities throughout the week that enrich our lives and our faith through learning and interaction with other seekers. These include Sunday forums, Bible Study, Book Group, Discovery Nights and Quiet Days. We honor each other’s individual and unique spiritual journeys while sharing and growing together in Christ. No matter what your interest, there is something here for everyone. See our Adult Ministries page for more information.
Parish Life and Fellowship
Share with us in celebrations, small groups and big events, in a community of faith. We invite everyone to experience the many opportunities to share fellowship with one another. Parish Life begins in worship, at the eucharistic table, and continues afterward with refreshments every Sunday. We enjoy large events like the fall Country Fair, Christmas caroling and Parish Christmas Party, Shrove Tuesday Pancake (or Pasta) Supper, Lenten Soup Supper, End of Summer BBQ and more. We also hold several All Parish Open Houses during the year, hosted by parishioners in their homes. The Newcomers’ Brunch is held each year in the winter at the rectory down the street from the church.
We celebrate God’s love at work in the world by striving to live out our Baptismal promises by being good stewards of the many gifts with which we have been blessed, not just financially but also in each individual’s talents, time and efforts. There are many stewardship opportunities at Atonement, and your unique gifts are always valued.
For 15 years Atonement has considered care and stewardship of the Earth a primary value of our congregation. We have a Vestry chair for Environmental Ministry so that concerns about Creation Care are always present in the oversight of, and future planning for our church. We have partnered with GreenFaith for many years in various ways; most recently Atonement became the first congregation of ANY faith in the State of New Jersey to earn the Water Shield for water conservation.
The Creation Season is observed in the fall, beginning with the Blessing of the Animals normally held on the first Sunday in October, and continuing through Thanksgiving. In the spring we celebrate Easter-Earth Sunday in April and the re-opening of the Church Garden at our Annual Meeting on the first Sunday in May.
