Open Doors, Open Hearts: Our Vision
To make The Church of the Atonement a community that welcomes people, of all ages and abilities, to experience the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ through our worship and ministry, and to share their unique gifts with us.

Open Doors, Open Hearts: Our Goal
To modify both our facility and our programs, to include members of our community who face barriers to worship, to education and to fellowship. Our plan creates barrier-free access, including upgrading and modernizing our building and grounds, while retaining the historic beauty of our church and respecting the environment.

Open Doors, Open Hearts, 140 Years: Our Capital Campaign
To recognize and celebrate the 140th anniversary of our parish, we introduced a major fundraising initiative in 2008 to achieve our Vision and Goal.  We have  accomplished our goal — raising approx. $500,000 — and installed an accessible Engle Street entrance, 3-level elevator, accessible bathrooms, and a computerized A/V system in our church.  Although we still do not have complete accessibility at all levels, achieving our vision with the main building now positions Atonement to better serve our community….as we now approach our 150th anniversary!

Can you still make a commitment?
Definitely – this is an ongoing campaign that we believe will continue over several years, even as we are completing our third phase.  If you need a Commitment Card, contact the office at 201.568.1763.

A Prayer for Open Doors, Open Hearts

Loving and gracious God,
in this year of our 140th anniversary,
you call us to worship you,
to proclaim the gospel,
to share and experience our faith,
to seek justice and peace.
You challenge us to welcome all,
to serve all, and to grow in the Spirit.
Be with us in this time of discernment.
Help us not to lose sight of our goal:
That we build to serve our community
as well as others whom we have not yet met,
and to further your presence in our world,
now and for generations to come.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Who with you and the Holy Spirit
live and reign, for ever and ever.   Amen.
